The American Bulldog
The American Bulldog, sometimes known as Old Country Bulldog, originated in the USA during 1700's as a guard and fighting dog. Settlers brought the original Bulldog stock from Britain and then developed from there. They were used to wrangle cattle in the developing frontier. It is strong and agile: it can hold unruly hogs or cattle, yet avoid the hooves and horns. It has a powerful build with thick neck and shoulders and very powerful jaws.

Coat Type: It has a short, shiny hard coat.
Temperament: The American Bulldog isassertive, intelligent, bold and lively. It should receive early and consistent training with a lot of socialization from a young age. It requires an experienced handler and will be happier if it has a job to do.
Special Interest: The American Bulldog was always used as a working dog and is not a common sight at dog shows. There is a wider range in size and weight than with most other breeds.
