The Bavarian Mountain Hound

The Bavarian Mountain Hound is also known as the Bavarian Scenthound or the Bayrischer Gebirgsschweisshund (Schweisshund in German translates to Bloodhound). It traces its ancestry in the 1800s to the old Hanoverian and Tyrolean scenthounds. This is an elegant, athletic dog that had to be very sure-footed and fit to take part in the hunts for small game such as hare and fowl in the rough and mountainous regions in Bavaria. At first sight, it is similar in appearance to the Hanoverian Hound, but is shorter and finer boned than the latter.
