The Black and Tan Coonhound
The Black and Tan Coonhound, also known as the American Black and Tan Coonhound, has its origins back in the 1700's in the USA where it was developed to hunt raccoons at night. Its ancestry goes back to the Bloodhound and likely the foxhound as well. In 1900, it was the first of the coonhounds to be recognized as a distinctive breed, and remains the only coonhound to be recognized by both the AKC and CKC.
