Hungarian Vizsla

The Vizsla, or Hungarian Vizsla is a pointing dog that originates from Hungary over 1000 years ago. Stone etchings that date to 1000 AD show that this dog was originally used as a hunting companion and in the sport of falconry. However the breed was nearly decimated during the time of the two World Wars, only being preserved by dedicated owners who took their dogs with them as they fled to other countries. It was accepted into the AKC in 1960, and shortly after by the CKC. This rusty-gold colored dog is a superb hunter and pointer, and works well in the field as well as retrieving from the water. This dog likes and requires a lot of exercise.
