Japanese Spitz
The Japanese Spitz is assumed to be a miniaturization of the Samoyed, the breed that traveled with nomadic tribes from Mongolia, and so is thought by some to not be related to the American Eskimo Dog; however, there is some disagreement on that point. It is conjectured that it dates to the early 1900's and was developed as a companion first, and a watchdog later. It has become popular in Europe, especially in Britain where it was recognized in 1977.
