Miniature Australian Shepherd
The Miniature Australian Shepherd, is a relatively new breed, originating in the western USA between the 1960's and 1980's as a result of a specific breeding program. This breed is directly descendant of the Australian Shepherd. It was bred to be a more compact version to be used more as a companion dog or only working with small stock, as opposed to its progenitors who can work larger stock.
Height: 14 - 18" (35.6 - 45.7cm)
Weight: 20 - 35 lbs (8.9 - 15.6 kg)
Coat Type: The double coat is of moderate length and somewhat wavy.
Temperament: The Miniature Australian Shepherd has a pleasing personality, is gentle, alert and intelligent. As with any herding dog, it does require regular exercise.
Health Problems: The most common problem are eye anomalies such as Iris Colobomas (IC), Juvenle Cataracts, Persistent Pupilary Membrane; some may lead to partial or total blindness, so it is essential to have CERF certification early. Hip dysplasia is also found on occasion.
