Munsterlander large

The Large Münsterländer, also known as the Grosser Münsterländer Vorstehhund, evolved in Münster, Germany from its smaller cousin in the 1800's because at that time only the liver and white dogs descended from the German Long-haired Pointer were accepted. This breed then is easily distinguished from the Small Münsterländer not only by its size, but by its black and white coloring as well. It has always been used as a retrieving dog, and it tracks and points game as well. In its work, it is fearless and tireless being able to work in all kinds of terrain and weather.

Height: 23 - 24" (58.4 - 61cm)

Weight: 55 - 65 lbs (24.6 - 29 kg)

Coat Type: The coat is sleek, smooth and medium long, with ticking (freckling) on the white. The coat requires regular grooming.

Temperament: The Large Münsterländer a loyal and friendly dog that is responsive to its humans. It makes a wonderful house companion dog and responds well to training. It is a slow maturing dog, so don't "over-train" in its field work at too young an age.

Health Problems: There may be a few cases of hip dysplasia although it is not prevalent in this breed.

Special Interest: The Large Münsterländer will go after birds of prey if they threaten small farm animals in the dog's domain.
