Rat Terrier
The Rat Terrier originated in England in the 1800's as a result of crosses between the Smooth Fox Terrier and the Manchester Terrier; it was later brought to North America where some Italian Greyhound and Beagle were introduced to the mix. The result is terrier-type courage with speed and a good nose. It was used as a ratter and as a watchdog due to its very alert nature. They come in two sizes, Standard and Small.
Coat Type: The coat is smooth and short requiring very little grooming.
Temperament: The Rat Terrier is a lively dog that is very determined and aggressive in the hunt and quite vocal when at play. It will require a good deal of exercise and play time.
