Schapendoes
The Schapendoes, also known as the Dutch Sheepdog, originates from the Netherlands, and traces its ancestry to the Briard, the Bearded Collie, and the Bergamasco. It was first used as a herder and a flock guardian, and although it has been around for a long time, it was never seen in great numbers until the post-WW2 period. It was officially recognized in 1952.

Weight: 30 - 40 lbs (13.4 - 17.9 kg)
Coat Type: The coat is thick and shaggy, with the hairs being about 3" (8 cm). It has a wooly undercoat and so a good deal of regular grooming is required. It is generally gray to blue and black; it may have white markings as well; however all colors are acceptable.
Temperament: The active, friendly and playful Schapendoes is a nice family dog that is patient with children. And when it is working, it is fearless and very hardy. It is a great jumper, so fencing must be adequately high.
