Schnauzer (Giant)
The Giant Schnauzer, also known as Riesenschnauzer, originated in Germany in the 1400's. Its first use was droving cattle. The breed was first exhibited at a show in Munich in 1909. The Giant Schnauzer is a powerful, muscular dog. Its height at the shoulders should match its body length, giving it a square shape when viewed in profile. It has a flat forehead, chin whiskers and a stubby mustache.
Height: 23.5 - 27.5" (59.7 - 69.8cm)
Weight: 70 - 77 lbs (31.2 - 34.4 kg)
Coat Type: The top coat is especially important for show purposes. It must be harsh and wiry in texture, with no tendency toward softness. About twice a year, the coat needs to be stripped to remove dead hairs.
Temperament: The Giant Schnauzer is intelligent, loyal and protective, and makes a great companion when well-trained.
Special Interest: On market day, the dog went along, and the farmer attached his purse to the dog's collar for safekeeping.
