Staffordshire Bull Terrier

The Staffordshire Bull Terrier, originally known as the Bull and Terrier, hails from the county of Staffordshire in England from the 1800's and possibly as early as the 1500's.. It was originally bred as a fighting dog, then used as well as a ratting dog. It traces its ancestry to the Bulldog and several of the terrier breeds. Although this breed was renowned for its fighting prowess for over a century and a half, when this blood sport became illegal, several fanciers led by Joseph Dunn set out to preserve this dog for its other great qualities. It was accepted by the Kennel Club in 1935. The Staffordshire Bull Terrier is a rugged and powerful dog in a smaller package, and is also a very athletic dog. He must be muscular and strong, but not sacrifice any agility due to his compact build.

Height: 14 - 16" (35.6 - 40.6cm)

Weight: 28 - 38 lbs (12.5 - 17 kg)

Temperament: Staffordshire Bull Terrier is a loyal and devoted family dog; yet as with many terrier breeds, it is also a strong-willed dog who shows no fear. Some of these dogs may still have a tendency to dislike other dogs, so early socialization with other dogs is a good idea. The Staff loves the company of its human family.

Health Problems: The Staffordshire Bull Terrier is generally a healthy dog.

Special Interest: The Staffordshire Bull Terrier is NOT a Pit Bull Terrier; the Staff is a friendly and loyal dog that should not be labelled as a dangerous dog.
