Tibetan Mastiff

The Tibetan Mastiff goes back to the 900's. This dog was may well be behind a number of the European Mastiffs, brought to the west with invading armies of old. The formidable size of the Tibetan Mastiff makes it a natural for protection and guarding flocks.

Height: 24 - 28" (61 - 71.1cm)

Weight: 140 - 180 lbs (62.5 - 80.4 kg)

Coat Type: The coat is a fairly long, thick, double coat which requires regular brushing/combing to keep it at its best.

Temperament: The Tibetan Mastiff is responsive to training and usually gentle with children. It is a brave and loyal dog.

Health Problems: The Tibetan Mastiff is not a dog for hot climates.

Special Interest: In Tibet, to show status, the dog often wears a red yak's-hair collar. The female often comes into heat only once a year.
