Wirehaired Pointing Griffon

The Wirehaired Pointing Griffon, also known as the Korthals Griffon, was developed in the 1800's by Edward Karel Korthals, likely by crossing griffons with French Pointers. Although Korthals was from Holland, he did most of the development of the breed in France. The breed was developed mainly for hunting and retrieving game, however, it will also hunt rodents and chase foxes.

Height: 22 - 24" (55.9 - 61cm)

Weight: 50 - 60 lbs (22.3 - 26.8 kg)

Coat Type: The Wirehaired Pointing Griffon has a hard, coarse coat. It has the characteristic bushy eyebrows and a heavy beard of long, thick hair. This dog will require periodic brushing.

Temperament: The Wirehaired Pointing Griffon is an excellent family dog, with a delightful personality. On the job in the hunt, he is independent and intelligent.

Health Problems: Watch for entropion and ectropion.
