Wirehaired Vizsla

The Vizsla, or Hungarian Vizsla is a pointing dog that originates from Hungary over 1000 years ago. Stone etchings that date to 1000 AD show that this dog was originally used as a hunting companion and in the sport of falconry. However the wirehaired variety is a product of the 20th century, thought to be a cross between the Smooth Vizsla and the Wirehaired Pointer. It has retained its pointing ability working both fur and feather, has a keen nose, and is a good swimmer. It was first shown in Hungary in 1904, and is more popular in Europe than in North America where it is recognized in Canada, but not by the AKC in the USA yet.

Height: 22.5 - 25" (57.2 - 57.2cm) for dogs, 21 - 23.5" (53.3 - 53.3cm) for bitches

Coat Type: The coat is coarse and wiry, somewhat thicker than its smooth cousin and so can withstand the cold a bit better, and can work more easily in dense brush.
