SeaTac-based Alaska Airlines and Portland-headquartered Banfield Pet Hospital this week announced a new alliance designed to make it easier for Alaska customers to arrange transport of their pets and ensure their health during a trip.
Alaska Airlines customers traveling with or shipping their pets are now entitled to a free office visit, travel consultation and a $10 discount on a health certificate at Banfield’s 800 pet hospitals in 43 states. The health certificate is now required for all pets traveling in the aircraft cabin, as baggage and as air cargo. Alaska last year transported about 83,000 pets throughout its system.
The pet transport service is especially critical for the airlines’ Alaska customers who in many cases have no choice but to transport their pets by air because no roads or trains link their communities to other cities, said Alaska spokeswoman Marianne Lindsey.
