Your pet’s excessive drinking a clue to underlying illness

SUZIE THE Corgi, Betty the cat and Hammy the hamster suffered from the same problem: drinking too much. No, this wasn’ the same as the human Christmas party syndrome. All three animals were drinking too much because of serious underlying illness.

Whenever a sick pet is brought to see me, there are two important tasks that need to be done. The first is obvious: a thorough physical examination of the pet. The second task is equally as important: asking the owner questions about what’s been happening. And one of the most crucial questions is simple: "How much is your pet drinking?"

Most people don’t pay a great deal of attention to this aspect of their pet’s life. Yet increased thirst is one of the key indicators of health problems.
